Website User Agreement and Privacy Policy

Katy Independent School District (“Katy ISD” or the “District”) respects the privacy of users that utilize the District’s website and other related forms of media such as web applications, portals, social media, mobile websites or mobile applications. The District’s Website User Agreement and Privacy Policy (“Privacy Policy”) includes information on what types of data are retained and explains the conditions under which the District uses and discloses that information. 

By using or accessing the website or any related forms of media, you are accepting this Privacy Policy and the practices described in this Privacy Policy. The District reserves the right to make changes to this Privacy Policy at any time. By continuing to use the District’s website you are accepting the terms of a revised Privacy Policy, which will be effective when posted on the Website.

User Data

Katy ISD’s website may maintain certain data that you transfer to the website for the purpose of the performance of the District services, as well as data relating to your use of the District services. Although we perform regular routine backups of data, you are primarily responsible for all data that you have transferred or that relates to any activity you have undertaken using the District services. You agree that the District shall have no liability to you for any loss or corruption of any such data, and you hereby waive any right of action against the District arising from any such loss or corruption of such data.

Katy ISD May Collect User Data in the Following Areas:

Website Registration – Katy ISD will not collect personally identifiable information unless users provide it to the District voluntarily and knowingly. This means the District does not require users to provide personally identifiable information in order to view the website. However, there may be certain features on the website that require more details to access the information. 

Online Student Enrollment – Katy ISD has implemented an online pre-registration system to enroll students in school. Users are required to provide specific information via the online forms in order for their child to be registered in Katy ISD.

Surveys – Occasionally, Katy ISD requests information from users via online surveys. The information collected via surveys will be anonymous and used for purposes of improving District learning opportunities or operations, and users can participate at their own discretion. 


Collection and Use of Personal Data 

Katy ISD may use personal data for the following purposes:

For Contact Purposes: To contact you by email, phone, SMS, or other forms of electronic communication, such as a mobile application's push notifications regarding updates or information from the District. 

News and Information: Katy ISD may use your name, email address and/or other contact information that you provide to send you notifications regarding programs, news, etc. that we think you may findvaluable. You may opt out of these communications at any time, although the District reserves the right to send notices about your account or other important notices, even if you opt out of all voluntary email 
notifications. 

To Manage Your Requests: To respond and manage your requests to the District.

For Other Purposes: Katy ISD may use your information for other purposes, such as data analysis, identifying usage trends, determining the effectiveness of our promotional campaigns and to evaluate and improve our services, marketing and your experience. By identifying patterns and trends in usage, the District is able to better design the website to improve users’ experiences, in terms of content and usability.

Katy ISD may share your personal information in the following situations:

With Service Providers: We may share your personal information with service providers to monitor and analyze the use of our service.

With Other Users: When you share personal information or otherwise interact in the public areas with other users, such information may be viewed by all users and may be publicly distributed outside. With Your Consent: The District may disclose your personal information for any other purpose with your consent.

With Legal Authorities: The District may disclose your personal information if such disclosure is required by law to cooperate with a request by regulators, law enforcement, or a United States court. 

Collection of Anonymous Data

Katy ISD does not require you to share any of your personal information when browsing the website. You may browse the website anonymously and we do not collect your personal information. However, we may collect certain non-personal information such as your browsing activity, including which pages you visited, your geographic location, IP address, device model, operating system, internet browser type, and any other online communication data information.

Links to Third Party Sites

Katy ISD may include on its website links to third-party sites and social media sites that you may access. Please be aware that these third-party sites and social media sites have separate privacy and data collection policies that are independent of the District’s Privacy Policy. Katy ISD is not responsible or liable for any third-party Privacy Policy or data collection practice. It is your responsibility to review the privacy policies and practices of any third-party sites. 

The information on this website is for general informational purposes only. Katy ISD makes no representations or warranties, express or implied. Your use of the website is solely at your own risk. This website may contain links to third party content, which we do not warrant, endorse, or assume liability for.

Retention of Personal Data

Katy ISD will retain personal data usage only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy. We will retain and use your personal data to the extent necessary to comply with our legal obligations (for example - if the District is required to retain your data to comply with applicable laws), resolve disputes and enforce our legal agreements and policies. 

Katy ISD will also retain usage data for internal analysis purposes. Usage data is generally retained for a shorter period of time, except when this data is used to strengthen the security or to improve the functionality of the District’s service, or Katy ISD is legally obligated to retain this data for longer periods of time.
